Héritage de Michael Jackson : ses enfants touchent 4 millions par an
This is the annual income from the profits of an empire valued at two billion dollars, managed by a specialist firm. A windfall that should continue to grow...
Sixteen years after his death, Michael Jackson is still bringing in a fortune... This is what court documents revealed, brought forward in proceedings related to the estate, which is still not finalized. According to People magazine, Paris Jackson, the daughter of the King of Pop, has received a windfall of 65 million dollars since her father's death, drawn solely from the profits from the exploitation of the musical empire managed by the estate firm - which makes a little more than 4 million in average income per year since 2009... Amounts that should be multiplied by four, since the star had designated as heirs only his three children Prince, Paris and Blanket (known as Bigi), as well as his mother Katherine, still alive at 95 years old.
Paris Jackson, 27, probably didn't expect to see her accounts so publicly exposed. But she herself provoked this transparency by questioning the management of the executors, pointing to the exorbitant bonuses they paid to several law firms that support and advise them. The managers responded by stating that these bonuses of several hundred thousand dollars were "deserved and reasonable" in view of the work done since the pop star's death: at the time of his death, Michael Jackson was in fact more than 500 million in debt and owed money to around sixty creditors...
“Few people have benefited more from the executors’ decisions than the petitioner herself, who received nearly $65 million from the estate,” the managers recall in a document cited by People. “The executors helped transform an estate built on nothing but debt and burdensome obligations into an empire valued at $2 billion,” referring to the Jackson brand today as “a powerhouse and a force in the music industry.”
Sale for 600 million
The estate's office has indeed multiplied contracts and initiatives to fill the gaps and best manage the late star's catalog and image: asset sales, licensing agreements, album and unreleased material releases, production rights signed with Cirque du Soleil, the MJ musical, and the upcoming biopic on the pop star, scheduled for next year, which could generate enormous profits and royalties if successful. Not to mention the sale of part of the singer's catalog finalized with Sony for a sum of at least $600 million last year, including some of the star's hits, such as "Beat It" and "Bad," but especially those of other artists acquired during his glory days.
A transaction that had been delayed due to the opposition of Katherine, the deceased's mother, who opposed this piecemeal sale, unlike the singer's children... She argued that Michael Jackson did not want to see his inheritance squandered and that the assets should remain entirely in the family. False, replied the court, the will on the contrary leaves the heirs a lot of room for maneuver. Enough to round out their annual income a little more... While waiting for the big prize, when everyone will receive their share, once the standoff with the American tax authorities is settled.
