«100 ans de Wade» : un gros changement annoncé
The schedule of festivities marking Abdoulaye Wade's 100th birthday has been revised. Initially, a national tribute was planned for May 29, the former head of state's birthday. The festivities will now begin on June 4 and continue on June 5.
The announcement was made this Tuesday during the PDS press conference regarding preparations for the centenary celebration of its founder. The national secretary of the liberal party, Mayoro Faye, who delivered the news, justified the rescheduling by the proximity of the originally chosen date to Tabaski (May 27 or 28).
"The official opening ceremony, scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026 at the Grand National Theatre, will be presided over by the President of the Republic, in the presence of political and administrative authorities, and religious and traditional figures," Mayoro Faye told Le Soleil.
