12 ans après la perte du pouvoir, le PDS affiche ses ambitions de retour
The Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) remains firmly entrenched in the opposition despite the difficulties following its loss of power in 2012. This is the message conveyed by its deputy secretary-general in charge of international relations, Mayoro Faye. He also announced that the party is preparing its comeback through a new political project developed with Karim Wade.
"The Senegalese Democratic Party is in the opposition and we carry out many actions with the other opposition forces, whether through meetings or marches," he stated yesterday on RSI in the program "En Vérité".
The liberal official stressed that the PDS actively participates in the actions of the opposition through the Front for the Defense of Democracy and the Republic (FDR).
According to him, the exercise of opposition must be based on respect for the democratic principles inherited from Abdoulaye Wade. "The conquest of power must be done exclusively through the ballot box and in respect of democratic rules," he insisted, recalling the tradition of openness that has always characterized the management of power under the liberal regime.
"The PDS has never governed alone. We have always brought together different political sensibilities as well as actors from civil society in order to unite the vital forces of the nation," he argued.
According to him, the loss of power inevitably weakened the influence of the PDS political party. "A party that loses power also loses some of its strength. We must be clear-sighted and recognize that," he admitted.
For Mayoro Faye, the PDS remains one of the main political forces in the country thanks to its territorial presence and internal organization. "We are among the strongest, most organized, most disciplined and most mature parties in Senegal," he stated.
He concluded by revealing that the PDS, in collaboration with Karim Wade, is developing a new societal project. This document will soon be presented to the Senegalese people in preparation for the upcoming elections.
