2026, « Année de l’Emploi » : Bassirou Diomaye Faye fait de la jeunesse le moteur du projet national
In his address to the nation, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye placed youth at the heart of his plan for 2026, describing them as the nation's "unwavering strength," capable of withstanding adversity and shaping Senegal's future. "At the heart of our nation, youth constitute a force that never erodes despite the trials," the Head of State affirmed, emphasizing the strategic role of this majority segment of the population in the country's economic and social transformation.
It is with this in mind that the president declared 2026 the "Year of Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy." This decision is intended as a direct response to the major concerns of young people, particularly unemployment, job insecurity, and the search for sustainable opportunities. Through this choice, Bassirou Diomaye Faye intends to promote public policies focused on job creation, community initiatives, and economic inclusion.
The head of state also highlighted a historic event: the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), the first Olympic event ever held on African soil. For the president, this moment transcends the realm of sport. "It is a symbol of confidence, capability, and openness," he declared.
According to him, Dakar 2026 represents an international showcase for Senegal and for all of Africa. The event must demonstrate to the world the country's ability to honor its commitments and to organize a major global event. "It will be up to us to show, with high standards, what Senegal can offer the world," the president insisted.
Through the discipline of its youth, the hospitality of its people, and the credibility of its institutions, Senegal aims to make these Games a collective success. This national challenge is intended as a catalyst for mobilization, pride, and a vision for the future. By linking employment, the social and solidarity economy, and the Olympic event, Bassirou Diomaye Faye outlines a vision where young people are not merely beneficiaries of public policies, but the central drivers of national success.
