Accusations infondées : Le CDEPS démonte « les affabulations de Cheikh Bara Ndiaye »
The Council of Press Broadcasters and Publishers of Senegal (CDEPS) denounces what it calls "fabrications" and "seriously defamatory" remarks made by MP Cheikh Bara Ndiaye on the Seneweb set on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
In a statement released on January 14, the press employers' organization firmly rejects the claims that Farba Ngom was behind the press blackout of August 13, 2024. The CDEPS condemns the accusations as being "without the slightest rhetorical caution or any evidence whatsoever," deeming them "unfounded and devoid of any nuance."
For the CDEPS, this media appearance is part of a broader strategy to discredit the private press. "These false statements are part of a wider dynamic of systematically discrediting the private press, driven by the supporters of the new regime," the statement emphasizes, recalling that the press blackout in August 2024 was intended solely to "protest against the actions and repeated attacks on press freedoms attributable to the government resulting from the third alternation of power."
The professional organization also rejects any attempt to link this media mobilization to the arrest of Farba Ngom in February 2025. Such an interpretation, it argues, is "more fabrication than an analysis based on established facts." The CDEPS even sees it as "a clear attempt to manipulate public opinion."
In this regard, faced with what it considers a serious lapse, the CDEPS announces its intention to pursue "all the legal consequences of these defamatory remarks." It also calls on media professionals to "not associate themselves, either through complacency or silence, with any attempt whatsoever to denigrate the Senegalese private press."
