Aéroport de Ziguinchor : Le Président de la République affiche la fermeté sur le respect des délais
During his economic tour of the south, the President of the Republic visited Ziguinchor airport to assess the progress of the construction work. The Head of State expressed his satisfaction with the resumption of the project and the level of progress, but emphasized the importance of adhering to the deadline set for the contractor.
"Our recent visit to the Ziguinchor airport construction site allowed us to note with satisfaction the resumption of work, but above all, beyond the resumption itself, the pace at which the work is progressing. We committed, as early as 2025 with the supplementary budget law, to injecting 7 billion and to allocating the remaining 6 billion for the initial 2026 budget law. This amount allows us to meet the deadline to which the company has committed for the delivery of the project, namely the end of April 2026. And this is all the more important as the Ziguinchor region, as you know, is a key link in the deployment of the territorialization policy that we have undertaken since we came to power," the President of the Republic declared at the beginning of his remarks.
Ziguinchor has enormous potential in terms of tourism, culture, and the economy, which is why it is a very high priority. This is also why the Head of State wants the airport construction to be completed and for air service to be provided directly to Ziguinchor from other connecting hubs via the airport.
The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, has ordered the companies to respect this deadline. He has also asked the relevant ministers to ensure that the work is completed by the agreed date.
"I would like to call on the companies involved in the project to continue to give their best so that the high-quality architectural design and the quality of the work they are delivering can support the completion of the project. Obviously, I am counting on the rigor of the Minister in charge of infrastructure and the vigilance of the Minister of Road and Air Transport to ensure that the deadlines are met and that, thanks to this airport, Ziguinchor can breathe freely again in terms of accessibility, as we want for all the other regions of Senegal in which the program is being carried out," said the Head of State during his press statement.
The President of the Republic, in accordance with the national transformation agenda Senegal 2050, wishes that other regions in which this program has not yet been implemented, can also benefit from it, and allow air service from regional airports.
