The Pastef party's departmental coordination in Tivaouane deemed it necessary to postpone the launch ceremony for its action plan, initially scheduled for Saturday afternoon, January 31, 2026, at the UPIS (a local police station) in the Ndoutt neighborhood, less than 200 meters from the home of Serigne Moustapha Sy Al Amine. This postponement comes amidst social tensions stemming from insults directed at this religious leader, a situation considered sensitive in the Tivaouane department, a major religious center in the country.
The Pastef party explains that this decision is motivated by its commitment to the principles of peace, social cohesion, restraint, and stability—values that have always guided its political action. "Preserving peace and social cohesion remains our absolute priority," the patriots emphasize.
This move was all the more appreciated by many observers of the scene given that a heated altercation had broken out during a recent press conference held by supporters of Serigne Moustapha Sy Al Amine in Tivaouane. The incident occurred during a speech by a Pastef activist, who was interrupted and then expelled from the room by the marabout's entourage.
Those close to the religious leader denounced "a smear campaign, repeated, coordinated, and clearly malicious attacks directed against (their) religious guide." They also warned of the dangers of such a situation, noting that "these actions, attributable to individuals claiming affiliation with a specific political movement, have recently crossed an unacceptable threshold."
Ardo Gningue, the whistleblower, had, in time, solemnly appealed to the local authorities, notably the prefect and the police commissioner of Tivaouane, to prohibit this demonstration, given the serious risks of public disorder. According to him, "in this context marked by a political-religious crisis between the religious family of Serigne Moustapha Sy Al Amine and the Pastef party, it is neither opportune nor responsible to organize a political mobilization of patriots in Tivaouane."
Such an initiative, presented as a show of force, can only be perceived as a blatant provocation, likely to exacerbate tensions and seriously disrupt social peace."
