Alioune Tine : « Diomaye, Macky et Sonko doivent faire litière de leurs égos ! »
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye's recent remarks regarding the conditions of his predecessor Macky Sall's candidacy for a position at the United Nations continue to generate considerable discussion. For Alioune Tine, founder of the Afrikajom Center think tank, while the explanations provided by the head of state are understandable, they primarily reveal a profound deterioration in relations between the two men.
According to the human rights advocate, this situation reflects "the deteriorating state of relations between the two heads of state, as well as the constraints and motivations behind it." He notes that Macky Sall's recourse to external mediators could be explained by the climate of domestic tension, marked by accusations from the new regime concerning "the humanitarian deficit and the hidden debt," subjects deliberately omitted from official discourse but which weigh heavily on the discussions.
Alioune Tine concedes that the method used by the former president, which consisted of consulting foreign counterparts before informing national authorities, is problematic. For him, this lack of formality "rightly shocks and irritates President Diomaye, and understandably so." However, beyond this breach of protocol, the real issue lies in the ability of Senegalese leaders to maintain the country's diplomatic prestige.
The analyst argues for immediate appeasement, believing it is imperative to "nurture relations between the two presidents who must be able to work for Senegal and the continent," recalling that this cooperation is Senegal's "natural vocation" on the international stage.
Faced with current global challenges, Alioune Tine makes a solemn appeal for unity within the political class, and more specifically for the triumvirate shaping the country's future. For him, Senegal needs "Diomaye, Macky Sall, and Sonko, as Senegalese leaders, to set aside their egos and overcome the subjective contradictions that overdetermine their actions."
In an unstable world, marked by the "rise of fascism, hatred and wars", the founder of Afrikajom Center reminds us that the country and the continent need "peace, unity and reconciliation" more than ever.
