Convocation présumée de Doudou Wade : Sopi Sénégal dément et appelle au respect des libertés
The Sopi Senegal Coalition has stepped forward to deny reports circulating in some media outlets and on social media claiming that Mr. Doudou Wade had been summoned by the Urban Security Directorate. In a statement released on January 30 in Dakar, the political party asserts that, at the time of writing, the former parliamentarian has received "no summons whatsoever."
According to Sopi Senegal, if a summons were to be sent to him in the legal forms, Doudou Wade would respond without hesitation, "as he has always done in the past", emphasizing his attachment to the judicial institutions of his country and to the image of Senegalese justice.
The coalition also recalls Doudou Wade's political career, which it presents as that of a "patriot" who always worked for "a Senegal of peace, stability, and harmony." It further denounces what it calls attempts to tarnish his image in the eyes of the public.
In the same statement, Sopi Sénégal expresses its support for Doudou Wade as well as for "all those who, for expressing their opinions on the direction of the country, find themselves harassed by the justice system."
The statement also mentions the case of journalist Pape Ngagne Ndiaye, whose summons the coalition finds surprising and for whom it demands an "immediate" release.
Reaffirming its commitment to freedom of expression and freedom of opinion, Sopi Sénégal finally calls on the authorities to ensure the preservation of social peace and the protection of the fundamental rights of all Senegalese.
This stance comes at a time when issues relating to civil liberties and judicial procedures are generating heated debate within national public opinion.
