Assemblée nationale : le curieux rendez-vous des députés
Members of the ruling majority have decided to introduce a draft resolution supporting the government's decision to refuse to restructure Senegal's debt, in accordance with IMF recommendations. The text will be examined in committee this Tuesday starting at 10:00 AM and presented in plenary session next Thursday. The newspaper Les Échos, which broke the story, considers such a parliamentary initiative unnecessary.
Instead of restructuring, the government opted for reprofiling, that is to say, "active debt management." The Minister of Finance and Budget, Cheikh Diba, speaking before the National Assembly during the last session of "Current Affairs Questions," revealed that this mechanism has already allowed Senegal to "free up more than 500 billion CFA francs in budgetary space."
