Assemblée nationale : Me Tall fustige la “politisation” du drame universitaire et rejette tout régionalisme
The debates in the National Assembly of Senegal surrounding judicial cases and the university crisis drew a reaction from lawyer Abdoulaye Tall. Speaking in plenary session, he said he was "ashamed" to see the agenda, set at the start of the session by the Speaker, hijacked, according to him, by a segment of the opposition. He denounced these "irrelevant" interventions, regretting that some members of parliament were following this approach.
Maitre Tall strongly criticized what he calls "excessive politicization of the distress of students", believing that the tragedy that occurred at the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) should not be exploited in a partisan confrontation.
He also denounced what he considered to be regionalist remarks, deeming it "shameful" to introduce considerations of origin or ethnicity into the handling of legal cases.
"Why try to make people believe that if someone is in prison, it's a question of region or ethnicity?" he asked.
The Farba Ngom case mentioned
Addressing the case of MP Farba Ngom, Mr. Tall rejected any suggestion of stigmatization. According to him, the authorities could have initiated proceedings for flagrant offenses, but chose to respect the rules by requesting the lifting of parliamentary immunity in order to guarantee the dignity and rights of the individual concerned.
For Mr. Tall, the procedure initiated is part of a normal legal process and cannot be interpreted as political or regional persecution.
