Assemblée nationale : travaux parlementaires suspendus, ce qui a tout stoppé
In its Tuesday edition, Les Échos revealed that parliamentary proceedings, which were to confirm the National Assembly's support for the government's debt non-restructuring strategy, have been postponed indefinitely. This dramatic turn of events at the Soweto Square comes after the last-minute cancellation of the Finance Committee meeting and the plenary session scheduled for Thursday, without official explanation, leaving room for speculation.
According to Le Quotidien, this blockage coincides disturbingly with the Financial Times' revelations about a loan of 426 billion CFA francs contracted in "total opacity".
MP Thierno Alassane Sall, leader of the Republic of Values (RV), reacted immediately, denouncing what he considers an admission of guilt by the Executive branch. On his social media, he condemned a maneuver aimed at avoiding a public debate on this "secret debt": "The meeting [...] was postponed at the last minute, after their recourse to toxic financial maneuvering was exposed," he insisted, as reported by the daily newspaper of the Avenir Communication group.
According to the opposition, the authorities chose to "let the storm pass and hone their arguments" rather than provide the clarifications demanded by public opinion and Senegal's financial partners.
