Attaques contre la presse : Abdou Mbow avertit sur une démocratie sénégalaise en danger
Abdou Mbow denounced the "arbitrary arrests of journalists," recalling that colleagues who had interviewed Madiambal Diagne had been arrested before being released. According to him, the blackout of TFM and 7TV signals illustrates the regime's fear of freedom of expression.
Maïmouna Ndour Faye, one of the few female media owners, and Babacar Fall were arrested simply for doing their jobs. "Their arrest constitutes a serious attack on democracy," he denounces.
For Abdou Mbow, the pressure exerted by civil society, the press and democrats made it possible to force the regime to back down.
He also stressed the need to clarify responsibilities and restore public trust. According to him, it is essential to know who ordered these arrests and to guarantee transparency in the procedures.
