AXE KIDIRA - BAKEL : Le président Diomaye rassuré après la reprise des travaux
The President of the Republic arrived this morning in Kidira, where he visited the construction site of the 65 km Kidira-Bakel section, work on which had been halted. After several months of uncertainty, work resumed in January 2026. Construction equipment is once again on site along this strategic route, which is now 89% complete.
According to technician Massamba Diop, of the 11 bridges on the section, seven should be demolished and rebuilt while the other four need to be rehabilitated.
Rural roads, urban roads, drainage works, public lighting and social infrastructure are also planned.
To date, the project has generated 1,373 jobs, 62% of which are local, highlighting the link between infrastructure and local development.
The strategic Tambacounda - Kidira - Bakel axis, 250 km long, aims to ensure a better level of service for the road network, to improve traffic and safety conditions in the areas crossed, as well as the economic activities of the localities concerned.
This visit reaffirms the Head of State's commitment to making the opening up of isolated areas a lever for sovereignty, territorial equity and employment, in line with the "Year of Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy" and the Senegal 2050 Vision, which affirms that connecting territories means unleashing their economic potential.
