Bassirou Diomaye Faye : « Cette coalition, je ne la trahirai jamais »
The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, reaffirmed his commitment to the Diomaye President coalition, praising the decisive role it played in his rise to power and promising to continue to govern with its members.
"This coalition, I will never betray it," declared the head of state, going into great detail about the genesis of this political gathering which he thanked for bringing him to the head of the country and for continuing to support him in the exercise of power.
Aminata Touré's choice from prison
Returning to the organization of the political coalition that supported his candidacy, Bassirou Diomaye Faye clarified the circumstances under which he chose Aminata Touré to oversee the coalition. “I chose Aminata Touré while I was in prison. I made her the coalition supervisor,” he stated. The head of state explained that he had personally contacted her, along with Abdourahmane Diouf, at a time when her candidacy for certain political offices had been jeopardized.
A coalition built collectively
The president also sought to clarify the circumstances under which the coalition was formed. According to him, the idea that he created this coalition alone is untrue. "Those who say that Diomaye created a coalition are trying to distort the truth," he asserted. He explained that several political figures had been mobilized to convince Aminata Touré to join this political movement. These included Yassine Fall, Amadou Moustapha Ndieck Sarré, Ayib Daffé, and El Malick Ndiaye.
Governing with the coalition
Bassirou Diomaye Faye also emphasized the commitment to continue involving coalition members in the exercise of power. "We won with you, we will govern with you," he affirmed to the assembled political leaders. The head of state concluded by reiterating the pledge he made in his first speech after his election: to govern with humility. "I will govern with humility," he had declared at the time.
Returning to this promise, he emphasized the need to recognize the continuity of the state. "We must understand that the state did not begin with us and it will not end with us," he stressed. In the same vein, the President of the Republic called for maintaining a political climate based on discipline, dialogue, and respect for institutions.
He also reiterated that the opposition must retain its full role in the democratic debate. "You have an adversary, and that is the opposition, and even the opposition must have its say," he declared, adding that the government's achievements and ambitions can be presented "with discipline and through dialogue." "I believe in the virtue of dialogue," the head of state concluded.
