Candidature de Macky à l'ONU : Massaly sollicite le soutien officiel du Président Diomaye Faye*
"The purpose of my approach is clear: to request your official support for the candidacy of His Excellency Macky Sall for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations." This request, through an open letter to President Diomaye Faye, was formulated by the political actor, president of the UNR (Union for a New Republic) party, Mouhamadou Lamine Massaly.
He says she is driven by a sense of the higher interest of the Nation, for the influence of Africa and by the conviction that certain decisions transcend political divisions to become part of History.
Massaly continued: "Mr. President, Senegal has always distinguished itself by the quality of its statesmen, the strength of its institutions, and its diplomatic tradition, respected throughout the world. President Macky Sall's candidacy for Secretary-General of the UN represents a historic opportunity for our country and for Africa. Consider the serious and strategic nature of this candidacy, Mr. President," he said.
For him, this candidacy demonstrates Africa's place in global governance and elevates Senegal's diplomatic leadership, as Macky Sall is currently the only African candidate. "Therefore, Mr. President, you cannot remain indifferent indefinitely. During his years at the helm of Senegal, he has acquired invaluable experience in contemporary geopolitical issues, multilateralism, mediation, and international dialogue. His involvement in major issues related to sustainable development, regional stability, and international cooperation gives him undeniable legitimacy to represent the voice of nations within the highest global body," he told the Head of State.
The leader of the UNR believes that beyond the individual candidate, it is the image of Senegal that is at stake. "By supporting the candidacy of your predecessor to the highest office, you would be making an act of rare political stature. You would be demonstrating that the higher interest of the Nation takes precedence over partisan differences. You would be embodying a mature republican vision, where the continuity of the State transcends democratic changes of power," he told the President of the Republic.
He added: "Such a gesture would enhance your stature, Mr. President. It would place you above divisions, in the position of a statesman concerned with Senegal's international standing and the strengthening of African leadership in global governance." Indeed, in the eyes of this political figure from Thiès, history remembers leaders capable of transcending antagonisms to serve a cause greater than themselves.
"By supporting this candidacy, you would send the world a strong message of unity, institutional stability and democratic maturity. You would affirm that Senegal is a nation where political alternation means neither a break with the national interest nor the erasure of diplomatic achievements," Massaly told President Faye.
For him, our country has the opportunity to elect one of its own to head the UN. Such a prospect transcends affiliations and sensitivities; it entails collective responsibility, according to Massaly.
"Mr. President, we believe that by supporting this candidacy, you would be making a foundational, courageous and unifying act that would leave a lasting mark on your presidency and honor the Republic," he concluded.
