Candidature de Macky Sall à l’ONU : Racine Talla fustige des « voix et plumes à contre-courant »
The race to succeed António Guterres as Secretary-General of the United Nations has placed Macky Sall at the heart of an intense national debate. For Racine Talla, mayor of Wakhinane Nimzatt and former Director General of RTS (Senegal's national broadcaster), the criticism leveled at the former president stems more from "diversion" and "intellectual dishonesty" than from rigorous analysis.
A trial deemed "subjective and biased"
In a forceful op-ed, Racine Talla denounces attacks he describes as "indigestible and soporific" fabrications. He firmly rejects the accusations levelled against Macky Sall's presidency, particularly regarding the events of 2021 and 2024. For him, the solution is simple: "All you have to do is demand the repeal of the amnesty law, and justice will prevail," he asserts, thus sending his detractors back to their own logic.
The mayor of Wakhinane Nimzatt also dismissed criticism of the former president's stay in Morocco: "To insinuate that President Sall's stay on Moroccan soil is not republican or that he is seeking international attention to shed light on a dark presidency is simply unfair criticism."
"From Fatick to the UN": the logical continuation of a destiny
For Racine Talla, Macky Sall's rise to the head of the UN is by no means a "coincidence," but the culmination of an atypical journey that began in Sine 65 years ago. According to him, Senegal is now witnessing a "widespread regret among an entire nation for having 'lost' Macky Sall."
He goes further, suggesting a bold analysis: those who oppose his international candidacy are, in essence, those who would like him to return to national affairs to revive a country he considers to have been in a "decaying" state for two years. "Waiting until this moment to blame him for the state of the country is simply intellectual dishonesty," he asserts.
The former Director General of RTS emphasizes that what truly disturbs Macky Sall's detractors is his "international aura." He asserts that the former head of state possesses all the necessary qualities—skills, qualities, and experience—to hold the position of Secretary General.
In conclusion, Racine Talla believes that this candidacy is an honor for Senegal and Africa. To argue otherwise through "intellectual ramblings" only serves, in his view, to "further entertain the masses."
