CICAD : Plus de 1 200 délégués et quarante invités internationaux au congrès de Pastef
The first ordinary congress of Pastef began this Saturday at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center (CICAD) in Diamniadio. Speaking at the opening of the proceedings, Birame Souleye Diop, spokesperson for the party president, hailed a "historic" event marked by the presence of more than 1,200 delegates and numerous foreign delegations.
Addressing activists from all regions of Senegal and the diaspora, Birame Souleye Diop first expressed his satisfaction at seeing this first congress held in a context where Pastef now holds positions of power. "Welcome to each and every one of you, the 1,200 delegates from all corners of Senegal, from Dakar to Kédougou, from Saint-Louis to Ziguinchor. Welcome also to our valiant diaspora, which so proudly carries the banner of our struggle," he declared. The political leader also extended a warm welcome to the numerous foreign delegations present at this meeting, which he considers a major moment in the life of the party. "Welcome also to our forty or so guests from several African countries and around the world. Your presence is a testament to pan-African and global solidarity," he emphasized.
For Birame Souleye Diop, the participation of representatives from several African political parties reflects the resonance that Pastef's ideals find beyond Senegal's borders. "It reminds us that our struggle transcends our borders. It is a struggle for dignity, sovereignty, and the rebirth of the continent," he stated. In his address, he made a point of mentioning some of the foreign delegations that had traveled to the event, notably that of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), led by its Secretary General, Christophe Bazivamo. Having come to power in 2024 with the election of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Pastef is now seeking to strengthen its internal organization while affirming its vision of a sovereign Senegal, rooted in a dynamic of African cooperation and structural transformation.
