Conseil supérieur d’orientation agro-sylvo-pastoral : L’adoption d’un pacte national sur la consommation locale demandée
The President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, chaired the Higher Council for Agro-Forestry-Pastoral and Fisheries Orientation on Thursday, October 23. This consultation forum on the revision of the Agro-Forestry-Pastoral and Fisheries Orientation Law (LOASPH) aims to improve governance in the agricultural, livestock, and fisheries sectors.
The CLOASPH, which brought together rural stakeholders at the Palais de la République, provided an opportunity for the consumer movement to call for the adoption of a national pact on local consumption. According to consumer movement representative Amadou Kanouté (of Cicodev Afrique), this is an "essential foundation for a sustainable food system and food sovereignty, which are key guidelines for Vision 2050."
It was around this conviction that Mr. Kanouté focused his remarks before the Head of State. "Following the consultations conducted prior to this presidential council, consumers reaffirmed their support for the LOASPH and called for its effective implementation, through the adoption of a national pact on local consumption," he declared.
According to him, the idea of the pact is the result of a crucial desire to "find a balance between what we produce and what we consume."
"Consumers, their associations, but also producers, processors and distributors came together to discuss, without filter, the challenges and it is from there that they tried to understand why many consumers continue to prefer imported products," he confides.
During these discussions, consumers insisted on "the right to reliable information on products, the quality and hygiene of local foodstuffs; their accessibility, whether financial or geographical; the right to choice, in a competitive but healthy market; and finally, the need for education on consumption and nutrition," Mr. Kanouté emphasized.
