A historical figure in Senegalese parliamentary life, former Liberal MP Doudou Wade finds himself at the center of a controversy following remarks he made on television. In response to the ensuing reactions, Khalifa Sall, leader of Taxawu Sénégal, has stepped forward to call for a measured and contextualized interpretation of his statements.
According to Khalifa Sall, Doudou Wade remains one of the most prominent figures on the Senegalese political scene.
"As a former group leader in the National Assembly, Doudou Wade has left a lasting mark on the institution through the rigor of his thinking, the consistency of his commitment, and the broad perspective that has always characterized his positions. His career commands respect and continues to rightly inspire the new generation of deputies," the leader of Taxawu Sénégal posted on his Facebook page.
A respected statesman, Doudou Wade has distinguished himself over the years as a voice of wisdom, placing the general interest above partisan divisions and considerations. This stance, in Khalifa Ababacar Sall's view, should protect him from what he considers hasty suspicions.
However, the controversy stems from his appearance on the program Faram Facce, broadcast on TFM and hosted by Pape Ngagne Ndiaye. During this appearance, the former parliamentarian made remarks that quickly provoked strong reactions both in public opinion and on social media.
Following a supposed summons of Doudou Wade, several political leaders, including members of the opposition, expressed their support for the former parliamentarian. According to them, the historical analogy invoked by Doudou Wade is part of an explanatory and educational approach aimed at clarifying the debate without legitimizing or mechanically transposing references from the past onto current political realities.
