Décès d’Abdoulaye Ba : PASTEF/UCAD critique la communication du gouvernement et exige des actes
PASTEF/UCAD denounces the government's communication following the death of medical student Abdoulaye Ba, "which occurred under particularly serious and deplorable circumstances." In a statement published on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the university political movement criticized the authorities' handling of the situation.
Indeed, PASTEF/UCAD believes that the official version does not correspond to the facts experienced on the ground. "The press conference held by the authorities, particularly by the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Bamba Cissé, far from faithfully reflecting the reality of the facts, reveals a regrettable desire to minimize the seriousness of the events," the movement accuses.
PASTEF/UCAD claims to have been "both a victim and a witness of police brutality within the university itself," describing it as displaying "profound contempt for the student community." This stance, according to the text, "is reminiscent of practices that our people believed to be definitively a thing of the past."
The movement also highlights the silence of the authorities in the face of its repeated warnings. "Since the beginning of the events, PASTEF/UCAD has constantly alerted, challenged, and proposed responsible solutions to the competent authorities. Unfortunately, none of these appeals have been taken into consideration," it laments.
Returning to the context of student and citizen mobilizations, PASTEF/UCAD notes with concern that the practices fought against by the student community between March 2021 and June 2023 are resurfacing. This includes mentioning "the dozens of deaths without justice, more than 80 citizens and students who have fallen without the full truth being revealed."
Furthermore, PASTEF/UCAD demands in particular "the immediate, independent and transparent manifestation of the truth about the death of student Abdoulaye Ba", "the identification and punishment of those responsible for the violence committed" as well as "the immediate release of all detained students in order to promote appeasement and the resumption of dialogue".
He also demands "medical, psychological and administrative support for all injured students".
