Dette dite cachée, nouveau programme, réformes...: Les conclusions phares du FMI au terme de sa mission au Sénégal
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has concluded its mission to Senegal, which began on June 15. During their work, Mercedes Vera Martin, the IMF mission chief for Senegal, and her colleagues assessed the evolution of Senegal's macroeconomic situation and its outlook.
"The team welcomed the authorities' continued commitment and willingness to address the vulnerabilities revealed by past communication of erroneous data, including through reforms aimed at strengthening public financial management, fiscal governance and transparency," the head of mission said in a statement received by Seneweb.
Mercedes Vera Martin also welcomed the institutional reforms initiated by the Government of Senegal aimed at unifying debt management functions. She deemed this corrective measure "essential in the process of rectifying these reporting errors." She emphasized that "continued decisive action will be crucial to advancing progress toward closing the misreporting case."
During the discussions, the Senegalese authorities also reiterated their interest in a new program supported by the IMF. On this issue, the mission chief emphasized that her institution will continue to engage with the country's authorities on their policies and reform priorities that could be supported by an agreement with the IMF.
“These include measures to support fiscal consolidation and reduce debt vulnerabilities, strengthen debt management, improve public governance, and promote inclusive and sustainable growth,” the mission chief explained. She reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Senegal during these challenging times.
