« Aucune querelle ne mérite de déchirer le Sénégal » : Le message fort de Diomaye à Wade
In his speech during the celebration of the centenary of President Abdoulaye Wade this Thursday in Dakar, the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, delivered a tribute full of respect, but also carrying a strong political message.
In front of an audience of guests, he paid tribute to the legacy of the former president while highlighting the values of patience, resilience and overcoming divisions that marked his career.
“You have taught us that today’s adversary is not necessarily an enemy and that they can even become tomorrow’s partner,” the President of the Republic declared. This statement resonated particularly strongly in a political climate often marked by tensions and antagonisms.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye particularly emphasized the need to preserve national unity above political differences. "You have taught us that no quarrel, however heated, is worth tearing apart the country we share," he declared to his elder.
Indeed, the Head of State presented Abdoulaye Wade as a statesman whose experience continues to inspire current generations. He also emphasized his ability to never lose hope for Senegal, even in the most difficult times.
For Bassirou Diomaye Faye, one of the greatest lessons left by the former president lies in this ability to remain steadfast in one's convictions without giving in to bitterness or hatred. "One can stand firm without becoming hardened and continue to deeply love a country that is testing you," he affirmed.
A message which, beyond the tribute paid to the centenary of Abdoulaye Wade, appears as a call for appeasement and unity in the Senegalese political debate.
