Élection d’Abass Fall à la mairie de Dakar : Un coup politique réussi de Pastef, selon Assane Samb
Journalist and political columnist Assane Samb said the feud between Khalifa Sall and Barthélemy Dias has allowed the ruling party to take control of Dakar, a further setback for the opposition, which could suffer greatly.
"It was a successful political coup, thanks to negotiations and maneuvers carried out by Abass's camp aimed at the opposition," the journalist said on Sud FM. He believes this success is due to a division within the opposition during this election.
For Mr. Samb, the squabbles between Khalifa Sall, the leader of Taxawu Senegal, and his former right-hand man, Barthélemy Dias, had a negative impact on the vote in relation to their ability to keep the town hall in their hands.
A failure that, according to the columnist, is due to two aspects. "First, Khalifa Sall did not accept Barthélemy's strategy, which was to avoid trapping their advisors so that the election would not take place. Second, Benno Bokk Yaakaar's advisors largely voted for the Pastef candidate," he explained.
"These successive failures of the Taxawu Dakar coalition (presidential, legislative and Dakar mayoral elections) could have repercussions for future elections, if the opposition does not reorganize," he warns.
