« Face aux militants » : Ousmane Sonko répond au monde rural et valide la création d’un mouvement catholique au sein de Pastef
The leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, addressed the Senegalese people this Sunday as part of the launch of his new initiative, "Facing the Activists." This periodic online meeting aims to establish a direct dialogue with citizens on current national events and the activities of the political party. According to the Prime Minister, this format complements his in-person tours throughout the country and seeks to include all segments of society, particularly activists in rural areas and those in the diaspora. For this first session, the format allowed a representative from each of Senegal's fourteen regions to ask a question, fostering a more personal dialogue with their grassroots supporters.
Rural areas are waiting for greater proximity
The first question came from Khadim Ndiaye, representing the Diourbel region. He relayed the strong expectations of local authorities and rural activists who wish to increase direct contact with the party leadership. In response, Ousmane Sonko assured them that the national tours would continue, specifying that they would be adapted to the current context of the country. "The tours will be conducted according to the national situation. The idea is to travel around the country, starting with the departments we haven't yet visited. In politics, a certain closeness to the people is essential, and I am committed to this approach," he stated. He emphasized that this online meeting does not replace in-person visits, but rather constitutes an additional channel for ongoing communication.
Towards the structuring of a Catholic movement within Pastef
The second question concerned the possibility of creating a Catholic activist movement within Pastef. On this point, Ousmane Sonko reiterated that the party's statutes already incorporate the diversity of viewpoints, particularly religious ones, and that this pluralism constitutes a true asset for the organization. He welcomed the commitment of Christian activists, believing that establishing a specific section would strengthen the party's cohesion, similar to the "Domou Daaras" movement. "The existence of a section of Catholic faithful can only strengthen the party. Pastef is open to all viewpoints," he declared. To this end, he invited the Dakar-based activist who initiated the project to contact Ayib Daffé to coordinate the structuring of this new movement.
