Face aux militants : Ousmane Sonko promet la conquête de Matam
As part of the "Facing the Activists" initiative, a periodic online meeting organized to engage directly with activists from different regions, Pastef leader Ousmane Sonko answered a question from activist Bocar Thiam, speaking from the Matam region. The discussion focused on the party's presence in this notoriously challenging area, as well as how the leader communicates with local structures.
Responding to the activist's intervention, Ousmane Sonko first affirmed Pastef's commitment to expanding its presence throughout the country, emphasizing the specific case of Matam. "Pastef will conquer Matam. The landslide victory we achieved in the last elections must have a national dimension." He acknowledged that this region had long been difficult for his party due to the political context and local realities, but believes the situation has evolved. "Matam is a difficult area, given the conditions we have faced. But situations have changed, and Matam must not be left out of this national network."
According to him, the party's strategy now consists of strengthening its presence in all regions, in order to ensure a balanced presence across the entire territory.
Sonko refocuses communication with activists
When questioned about communication between the party leadership and its members, Ousmane Sonko emphasized that he does not operate on the basis of individual relationships, but rather in strict accordance with the party's statutes. "I don't negotiate with individuals. I adhere to the statutes, especially when it comes to decisions concerning the party structures."
He lamented that some activists sometimes entertain the idea of a personal relationship with the leader, which can create misunderstandings when it comes to making political decisions. "Some activists think they have a special connection, but when it comes to decisions concerning the party, I speak with the representatives designated by the people in each locality."
The Pastef leader insisted that decisions must go through legitimate structures in order to preserve internal discipline and the democratic functioning of the party.
