Farba Ngom à Yassine Fall : « Si vous étiez un homme... »
The plenary session concerning the lifting of parliamentary immunity for Mouhamadou Ngom, known as Farba, was marked by a heated exchange between the elected official and the Minister of Justice. Speaking in his own defense, the MP adopted an aggressive tone, mixing personal warnings with legal challenges.
From the outset, Farba Ngom directly addressed Yassine Fall regarding his previous statements: “Madam Minister of Justice, after everything you have said about me, even going so far as to claim that I am not ill, know that if I am stopping here, it is because you are a woman and you have a family. Otherwise, today before the Assembly, if you were a man, I would have said a great deal about you. It is not information that I lack, but I leave everything in God's hands.”
Continuing his tirade, he lashed out at comments about his health: "I am not dying. Death is a divine matter, it is not in your hands, so get over it."
Beyond the personal aspect, the MP focused his defense on what he described as a flagrant violation of the law. According to him, the proceedings against him were initiated well before the National Assembly ruled on his immunity.
“A legal expert criticized you for this in committee. As a member of parliament, she abstained because she knew the proceedings were already underway,” he stated, referring to the debates in the ad hoc committee. To support his claims, the parliamentarian lamented the judicial timetable imposed upon him, despite still, according to him, benefiting from parliamentary protection: “I was removed from the special wing on the 8th, 10th, and 12th. I was brought before a judge and formally notified of my detention. What remains of the proceedings?”
