During a plenary session examining the Ministry of Health's budget, MP Adama Diallo strongly denounced the lack of evaluation and adequate funding allocated to local authorities, despite the major responsibilities entrusted to them in providing healthcare to the population. According to him, "local authorities play a central role: they ensure the evacuation of patients, support enrollment of the elderly and students in the Universal Health Coverage (CMU), chair health development councils, purchase medications, and employ community health workers, some of whom are qualified but insufficiently supported."
The MP recalled that in 1996, at the time of the transfer of powers, the State had promised to provide local authorities with the necessary resources to carry out these missions. "This promise has never been kept," he declared indignantly, denouncing a system where local authorities "do a lot with very little."
Gossas is calling for a mother-child hub. Adama Diallo also emphasized the structural challenges facing the Gossas health center, which he is requesting be established as a mother-child hub. He pointed out that "the gynecologist who works there is alone and under contract, a situation that jeopardizes the continuity of service." "With each contract expiration, the entire department is left in limbo," he warned.
The shortage of pediatricians and midwives further exacerbates the difficulties in providing care in this rural department. The member of parliament also addressed the situation at the Colobane health post, officially designated as a health center, but still operating in the premises of a former post. He deemed this situation "abnormal" and said it must be rectified.
Adama Diallo argued for this territory to be included in the new construction programs planned in the health sector, recalling that territorial equity must be at the heart of public investments.
