Guy Marius Sagna lie le dossier des “martyrs” au drame de l’UCAD et interpelle Bassirou Diomaye Faye
MP Guy Marius Sagna strongly challenged the government during the examination of draft law no. 09/2025, which establishes and sets the rules for the organization and operation of the National Observatory of Places of Deprivation of Liberty (ONLPL). The text is being debated in plenary session this Monday, February 16, at the National Assembly of Senegal.
Speaking, the parliamentarian established a direct link between the handling of the "martyrs" case, referring to the victims of past political demonstrations, and the recent violence at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), which led to the death of student Abdoulaye Ba.
According to him, "those who have slowed down the martyrs' case, who are still waiting for justice to be served, are responsible for what happened at UCAD." He believes that the lack of justice in previous cases may have contributed to a sense of impunity and the perpetuation of certain methods of intervention.
Addressing the Minister of Justice, the MP requested that a message be conveyed to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. "Whoever has obstructed this case is harming us and is accountable for what happened at UCAD," he declared, calling for an acceleration of the procedures related to the victims of the demonstrations.
For Guy Marius Sagna, doing justice to the "martyrs" could have a deterrent effect and contribute to an evolution in the practices of law enforcement.
He therefore argues that the truth should be revealed on all outstanding cases in order to restore trust between citizens and institutions.
