Infrastructures et Transports : Comment Déthié Fall accélère la cadence en zone Sud
The southern region of Senegal experienced a historic day on Thursday, April 30, 2026. Under the impetus of the Head of State and the coordination of the Prime Minister, two major projects have taken decisive steps: the reopening of the Ziguinchor airport and the strengthening of the security network at the border with the laying of the foundation stone of the Mpack police station.
The "cost, time, quality" triad is no longer just a slogan but a concrete reality for the Ministries of Infrastructure and Air Transport. By officially opening the Ziguinchor airport this Thursday, the authorities are responding to a pressing need expressed by the local population and economic stakeholders. This modernized infrastructure is expected to act as a catalyst for tourism and trade, thus facilitating connections between the Casamance region and the rest of the country.
In conjunction with the airport's opening, the Minister of Infrastructure, accompanied by the coordinator of the Emergency Program for the Modernization of Border Areas and Territories (PUMA), visited the municipality of Boutoupa Camaracounda. There, the foundation stone was laid for the future Mpack police station.
This new security facility is part of a comprehensive strategy for monitoring and protecting border areas. The choice of Mpack, a key crossing point, underscores the State's commitment to guaranteeing the free movement of goods and people while effectively combating illicit trafficking. This initiative strengthens the presence of the territorial administration in the most remote areas, in line with commitments to modernize border infrastructure.
For Minister Déthié Fall, these achievements demonstrate a new approach to managing public projects. The emphasis placed on meeting delivery deadlines and ensuring the quality of the work must now serve as the standard for all national construction projects. By combining transport and security infrastructure, the government reaffirms its commitment to making Casamance a stable and dynamic development hub, fully integrated into Senegal's economic growth.
