Installation du nouveau président de l'Assemblée : « Les apprentis n'ont rien vu venir », jubile Waly Diouf Bodiang
Ousmane Sonko was elected Speaker of the National Assembly on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, with 132 votes in favor, consolidating his position as the second most powerful figure in the Senegalese state. This election to the speakership comes just days after his departure from the post of Prime Minister, formalized on Friday, May 22, 2026, by the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Succeeding the resigning El Malick Ndiaye, the Pastef leader has thus taken the reins of the National Assembly in Soweto Square. This turn of events prompted a reaction from Waly Diouf Bodiang, who publicly expressed his satisfaction and praised his party's strategy.
"We must acknowledge that we are good at political engineering. We have mastered the techniques of anticipation and rapid response. The apprentices saw nothing coming and have only their eyes to cry with. Let's move on to the next step," he wrote to comment on this parliamentary turn of events.
