Journée internationale du Nanisme : Talla Sylla plaide l'inclusion entière des personnes de petite taille dans tous les domaines

International Dwarfism Day is celebrated this Saturday, October 25th, around the world. The theme for this edition is: "Visibility, Inclusion, and Dignity: A society for all, without height barriers." On this occasion, the former mayor of Thiès, Talla Sylla, met with a group of women leaders responsible for "short stature." "I had the pleasure of speaking with these women as they actively prepared for International Dwarfism Day. A moment of simple and profound sharing. On our, I chose to kneel, not simply for the sake of posture, but for the beauty of an image that places us on the same level, as equals," said Talla Sylla. For him, true height is that of the heart.

He believes this day is fundamental. Talla Sylla believes that short people, often suffering from conditions such as achondroplasia, are among the most marginalized groups in our society. In addition to physical challenges, he notes that these individuals experience daily discrimination, stereotypes, and ridicule that affect their well-being, access to education, employment, and an equitable social life.

"This year, the date of October 25th resonates in a special way, in the midst of Pink October. I am thinking of those who are experiencing a double punishment: those who, in addition to fighting daily against prejudices linked to their size, must face breast cancer. They are fighting two battles, often with indifference that adds to their ordeal," he said.

The former mayor of Thiès believes that this International Dwarfism Day should be a powerful moment of mobilization to break down these barriers. He therefore invites people to raise awareness among the general public about the realities experienced by our short compatriots; to promote their recognition, dignity, and full inclusion in all areas. Talla Sylla also advocates for real accessibility, whether physical, social, or professional, by highlighting their talents, skills, and career paths.

Talla Sylla calls on all people of goodwill, civil society actors, and authorities to promote dialogue and make strong commitments to make this inclusion a reality.
