Mbaye Ngom (SG Mairie de Kaolack) : « Nous prévoyons d’injecter plus de 50 millions pour les 105 ans afin de vendre la destination Kaolack »
Kaolack City Hall Secretary General Mbaye Ngom visited Koundam Beach this morning. The municipality has strong ambitions to redevelop this site. He took this opportunity to discuss the organization of the city's 105th anniversary, which the city hall plans to celebrate. A budget of 50 million will be allocated to this event.
"The development of a city, anywhere in the world, involves events that stimulate the economy. Here in Kaolack, with each Gamou of Médina Baye, the economy grows. It's like the Youth Olympic Games that Senegal will organize in 2026; if all countries are chasing these events, it's to boost their economy. It's the same for the African Cup of Nations or the World Cup. Kaolack must not be left behind. Mayor Serigne Mboup is fully in line with the Senegalese government's program," explained Mbaye Ngom.
The aim of the 105th anniversary celebration is not just about the memorial, but also about economics. The organizers are also trying to sell Kaolack as a destination.
"We initiated the 105th anniversary, it's like the Kaolack International Fair. Every time the fair is held, Kaolack becomes the capital of Senegal. If we are organizing the 105th anniversary, it's really to meet the economic challenge and sell Kaolack to all Senegalese and to the whole world," he says.
The event will be used to introduce young people and children to Kaolack's emblematic figures: religious leaders, political figures, and military personnel. "This is not just a celebration, but an event to promote Kaolack internationally," he continues.
Regarding criticism of the organization of this anniversary, Mr. Ngom retorts: "There is a time for work and a time for politics. The time for politics is over. We have noticed that there is a certain chaos at the level [of the opposition], a veritable Mexican army within Pastef. We, at the town hall, are very well organized; there is only one chief, one leader: his name is Serigne Mboup. I would say that Pastef Kaolack does not exist. We have heard more than five declarations of candidacy for the candidacy. So they must first resolve their internal problems."
