Meeting de Mbour : Diomaye Faye joue gros, voici pourquoi
On Saturday, May 9, President Diomaye Faye will preside over a large rally at the Caroline-Faye Stadium in Mbour to mark the second anniversary of his rise to power. But more than just an anniversary celebration, this gathering of the "Diomaye President" coalition is described as a "decisive moment in the life of the nation" by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Serigne Guèye Diop, as quoted by L'Observateur. This event could thus mark the official birth of a "Diomayist" movement, independent of the core faction of Pastef.
According to Serigne Guèye Diop, this gathering is based on a principle of sovereign responsibility rather than confrontation. He states that "the President will not come simply to discuss the crisis. He will come to say, 'Here is what we are going to do, here is how we are going to do it, and when we are going to do it.'" He also clarifies that "the President does not have time to fight. The future of Senegal is in his hands."
Some believe this meeting constitutes a true "real-world test." Political analyst Dr. Malao Kanté, interviewed by the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group, believes that "today, we are facing a President who is increasingly asserting himself and who wants to prepare his troops for the upcoming political events." For him, Mbour represents "a test to gauge his strength and his capacity for mobilization," but also a challenge for his coalition allies.
The event has a dual significance. The newspaper's source emphasizes that "if it succeeds, it will bolster the President's position. If it fails, it will jeopardize everything they have built so far." Implicitly, the analyst continues, this gathering could mark "a new beginning in his relationship with Sonko," especially after the President's recent pronouncements, notably during his May 2nd interview, denouncing "an outrageous personalization of the project."
Beyond the power struggles, the event will ultimately serve as a social barometer. In his own stronghold, Bassirou Diomaye Faye will have to prove his ability to meet the pressing expectations of the population, particularly regarding "youth employment" and the "high cost of living," two years after his promise of change.
