Centenaire de Mbour : Le maire Cheikh Issa Sall réclame un statut spécial et plus de moyens

On the sidelines of the closing ceremony of National Youth Week, the mayor of Mbour, Cheikh Issa Sall, made a strong plea for increased government support to transform his city into a regional center of excellence. During the ceremony, which coincided with the town's centenary, the mayor celebrated a memorable day marked by the city's vitality and influence.

Sheikh Issa Sall paid tribute to the highest authorities of the State, notably the President of the Republic for his vision of a sovereign Senegal, as well as to Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko for the implementation of the "Senegal 2050" strategic framework. He also expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Khady Diène Gaye, whose presence in Mbour, according to him, symbolizes a model of success for young people.

The mayor emphasized the central role of sport in shaping citizens and fostering local economic development, describing it as a school of discipline, a source of national cohesion, and a driver of social inclusion. He specifically mentioned iconic figures like Demba Diop, as well as several pioneers and coaches who have left their mark on local sporting history. The city, he noted, continues to shine through its champions, both in wrestling and in Olympic disciplines. However, beyond the celebration, the speech served as a stark warning, as the municipality, faced with rapid urban growth and increasing needs, is now encountering structural and financial limitations despite its efforts.

Sheikh Issa Sall thus advocated for the accelerated modernization of infrastructure, particularly sports and sanitation facilities, as well as for the strengthening of basic social services, especially in the areas of health and well-being. According to him, Mbour urgently needs structural investments to become a showcase for a sovereign and emerging Senegal. He hopes that this appeal will find a receptive audience with the government, enabling the capital of the Petite Côte region to fully play its role in the development trajectory defined by the new authorities.
