Addressing parliamentarians, Cheikh Niang recalled "the historic role played by Senegal in defending the rights of the Palestinian people on the international stage." He emphasized that Dakar enjoys particular recognition in this matter, notably thanks to its unwavering diplomatic commitment. According to the minister, "Senegal has actively contributed to international efforts aimed at promoting the recognition of the State of Palestine." He stressed that "this stance constitutes a consistent and coherent diplomatic line of Senegalese foreign policy."
Responding to criticisms expressed by Guy Marius Sagna regarding diplomatic relations with Israel, the minister explained that "Senegal's position is based on a pragmatic approach. For Senegal, maintaining diplomatic relations allows it to foster dialogue and contribute to the search for lasting solutions to the conflict." Cheikh Niang stated that "the complexity of the conflict necessitates interaction with all actors involved, including the international powers influential in the peace process." He thus maintained that this stance does not constitute a questioning of Senegal's support for the Palestinian cause, but rather a diplomatic means of strengthening Senegal's influence on the international stage.
Furthermore, the minister defended Senegal's diplomatic tradition, which he described as being based on dialogue, mediation, and the search for peaceful solutions to international conflicts. He affirmed that this strategy allows Senegal to maintain credibility with various stakeholders.
