Crise nationale: Le FDR dénonce le « cynisme » du gouvernement et appelle à la résistance
The Front for the Defence of the Republic (FDR) called for national unity, denouncing the seriousness of the economic and institutional crisis that Senegal has been going through for two years.
In a statement received by the Seneweb editorial team, the Conference of Leaders of the FDR painted an alarming picture of the situation, pointing the finger at the "cynical irresponsibility" of the government.
According to the FDR, public finances are on the verge of collapse, with repeated payment defaults in vital sectors such as education, universities, and air transport. The peanut marketing campaign, a pillar of the national economy, has failed. "At the same time, the peanut marketing campaign, vital for our
the economy is resulting in a clear failure, an admission of the powerlessness of
"government," the note reads.
The FDR (Fund for the Defense of the Rights of the Peanuts) highlights SONACOS's inability to process the 450,000 tons of peanuts announced by the Prime Minister, due to a lack of financial resources. "The estimated needs of over 210 billion CFA francs contrast sharply with the meager results of the previous year, when only 155,000 tons were collected," the FDR points out.
The Front expressed its solidarity with the millions of farmers "forced" to sell their produce at rock-bottom prices to survive. "The Prime Minister's demagogic promises are running up against the wall of budgetary reality," the Front declared, accusing the government of abandoning farmers to extreme hardship.
On an institutional level, the FDR criticizes the behavior of the Head of Government, accused of publicly blaming his ministers, in violation of the principle of collegiality enshrined in Article 56 of the Constitution.
The Prime Minister's continued presence in office despite a legal conflict of interest is described as a "moral collapse of the state." The Front also criticizes the lack of transparency surrounding the announced constitutional reforms, fearing the instrumentalization of the fundamental law for political ends.
For Modou Diagne Fada's supporters, the contrast between the economic crisis and the ostentatious wealth displayed by the ruling elite is "indecent." The recent acquisition of luxury vehicles for members of parliament, through opaque mechanisms, is perceived as an "insult" to Senegalese households.
Towards a united opposition front
Faced with this situation, the FDR is calling for coordination among political, trade union, and civic forces to "stand against incompetence and injustice." In the coming days, the Front plans to meet with opposition parties and movements to establish a unified framework for consultation and joint action.
The communiqué also announces the appointment of Oumar SARR, president of the PLD/And Suqali, as the new coordinator of the FDR, replacing Samba SY of the PIT, praised for his "excellent work" during his term.
Finally, the FDR promises to strengthen its presence among the people, "who are bearing the brunt of the ruinous policies of the PASTEF regime", through field visits and direct exchanges.
