Nouveau programme avec le Fmi : Le Président Diomaye fait le point
The head of state, who gave an interview to the media this Saturday, gave an update on their discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
"There is no break with the IMF. Discussions are continuing. We want a program with the IMF and that is why we were discussing this program. Now, what remains is under what conditions this program will have to be drawn up," the head of state indicated.
He did, however, emphasize that despite the absence of this new program with the IMF, the country's growth trajectory is improving, its budget deficit is shrinking, and more resources are being invested in agriculture. Furthermore, the prices of some commodities have been lowered, as has the price of fuel.
"All this shows that the country is well run, that it is in safe hands, that those who run the country are competent. Because it takes political and technical engineering to achieve these results," he said.
However, the head of state is hopeful that things could soon return to normal with the Bretton Woods institution. "Discussions are continuing. And what we want is that, in the long term, we can have a program, and I am hopeful that in the coming months, we could have a program with the IMF. Obviously, this could make things much easier for us," he stated.
