Oumar Sarr fustige la gestion d'Ousmane Sonko : « Il se prend pour le timonier du pays »
The president of the Party of Liberals and Democrats (PLD), who is also the mayor of Dagana and a former minister, strongly criticized Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and the current regime. In a sharply worded statement, Oumar Sarr accused the head of government of adopting a hegemonic stance while disregarding a strategic vision for Senegal.
According to the leader of the PLD, "Ousmane Sonko sees himself as the great helmsman of the country," an attitude which, in his view, overshadows the daily concerns of citizens. The former minister believes that the national situation has deteriorated since the change of power, criticizing the new government for prioritizing communication over action. He maintains that the current authorities came to power through "trickery," without proposing credible alternatives to the structural programs already initiated in the past.
The debate on debt and international credibility
Oumar Sarr also accuses the regime of having sought to discredit the previous administration, particularly through revelations about the public debt. According to him, the accusations of "hidden debt" have not only tarnished the country's image but have also weakened its standing with international lenders. He further links the absence of a new formal agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to this loss of international credibility.
Towards an opposition coalition
Faced with this situation, the mayor of Dagana is advocating for broad unity of action. Although he considers his party "on the right track," he believes that a coalition of political forces is essential to building a strong alternative. He mentions ongoing discussions with several groups, including Amadou Ba's "New Responsibility," with a view to future joint statements.
For Oumar Sarr, the opposition must unite for the upcoming elections to avoid isolation. He concludes by stating that opposition parties must stand "on the side of the people" by actively supporting social demands, particularly those of students and teachers facing increasing hardship.
