Ousmane Sonko : "L’Afrique n’a pas d’amis, elle doit compter sur elle-même"

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko devoted a significant portion of his online address to the situation in Africa, which he considers to be largely absent from the current geopolitical realignments. "We are a continent that practically doesn't exist on the geopolitical map, but seems to be the only one ignoring it," he declared.

According to him, while the global balance of power is being redrawn between the United States, China, Russia, and the emerging powers grouped within the BRICS, Africa remains in a peripheral position. He therefore calls on African states to cease these "secondary debates" and fully grasp the global strategic challenges. Ousmane Sonko also asserts that Africa has "never truly emerged from colonization."

He discussed contemporary mechanisms of domination such as monetary dependence, debt, exploitation of natural resources, and restrictive conditions for accessing international financing. According to the head of government, modern colonization is no longer limited to physical occupation, but takes the form of an ability to impose economic and political choices on otherwise sovereign states.

A call for reforms and work

Faced with this situation, the Prime Minister is advocating for profound structural reforms. His program rests on several pillars: political stability, the resolution of internal conflicts, the strengthening of economic sovereignty, and a genuine culture of work and production.

“Africa has no friends, it has no relatives. It must rely on itself,” he insisted, urging activists and political leaders to set aside internal disputes and focus on strategic issues. For him, the real struggle transcends political rivalries: it is about securing the continent’s place in the new global order.
