Ousmane Sonko : "Le Pastef ne sera pas représenté dans le gouvernement"
Ousmane Sonko announced that PASTEF-Les Patriotes will not participate in the next government and will not be represented by any ministers. This decision was made public following discussions with the Head of State regarding the formation of the new executive team.
In a statement, Ousmane Sonko indicated that discussions had taken place between his party and the President of the Republic regarding the formation of the next government, in accordance with the commitments made by the PASTEF Executive Committee. He specified that a long and direct meeting was held this morning with the Head of State, during which areas of agreement were noted, but also significant disagreements.
These disagreements relate in particular to "the place and role of the majority in the executive system", a governmental architecture whose outlines, according to him, have not been clearly shared with the political party.
Following the internal party feedback meeting, new proposals were reportedly submitted to the head of state, but received no favorable response.
Consequently, the party formalized its withdrawal from the government process.
“PASTEF-The Patriots will not participate in the next government and will not be represented by any minister,” the statement concludes, adding that the political party remains open to future clarifications and promises to return with more details.
The party nevertheless wishes "every success" to the new government team that is expected to be put in place.
