Ousmane Sonko limogé : technocrate ou politique, le dilemme du futur Premier ministre
By decree no. 2026-1128 of May 22, 2026, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye dismissed Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and the members of his government. According to Le Quotidien, this decision marks a major political turning point. The newspaper believes that the head of state has "definitively freed himself from the shadow of Ousmane Sonko" and now assumes "the full powers conferred upon him by the Constitution."
In this new institutional configuration, the Avenir Communication group's daily newspaper continues, the choice of the future Prime Minister is the main indicator of the new presidential direction. Two options are now available to the Head of State.
The first is that of a technocratic profile, with the appointment of a person recognized for their financial or administrative expertise, with the aim of "reassuring international markets" and stabilizing the Multiannual Budgetary and Economic Programming Document (DPBEP 2026-2028).
The second option would be a "political opening," through the establishment of a broader government or a national unity government based on the momentum of the National Dialogue. This strategy, according to the newspaper, would isolate "the radical wing of Pastef," the same source analyzes.
