Nouveau gouvernement : Une démission annoncée à la présidence de la République
Professor Sidy Alpha Ndiaye announced on Tuesday his resignation from his position as Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic and Coordinator of the Legal Division of the Presidency, a few hours after the publication of the composition of the new government.
In a public statement, the academic justifies his decision by citing political and ethical considerations related to the evolving participation of his party, PASTEF, in the exercise of power.
"I officially submitted, this Tuesday, June 2, 2026, my resignation from my position as Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of the Republic and Coordinator of the Legal Department of the Presidency of the Republic," he said.
Sidy Alpha Ndiaye, a member of MONCAP/PASTEF, affirms that he accepted state responsibilities in order to contribute to the implementation of the legal reforms supported by the political project he supports.
According to him, "the idea of a political majority, endorsed by the ultimate sovereign, but which does not govern entirely contradicts (...) the very essence of representative democracy."
In his text, he argues that his party is "no longer fully in executive responsibility", referring to a presence reduced to "individual footholds" lacking, in his view, a genuine collective political dynamic.
Faced with this situation, the law professor stated that he chose to resign in the name of consistency with his convictions. "Loyalty to my intrinsic values dictates (...) the moral, ethical, and political choice: that of resigning from my position," he wrote, concluding with a quote: "Political virtue is self-denial."
