PASTEF : Une motion de reconnaissance qui redessine les lignes du pouvoir politique
In Diamniadio, the first ordinary congress of PASTEF, the Patriots, did more than simply take stock of the political situation; it sent a strong signal about how the party intends to write its own history. In a motion of recognition adopted in plenary session, the movement praised its leaders, its members, and the political choices made since 2024, in a text that was both historical and assertive. Read before attentive delegates, the document revisited the long cycle of struggles that led to the 2024 electoral victories, presented as the culmination of exceptional popular mobilization. But beyond the activist narrative, it is the interpretation of the exercise of power between 2024 and 2026 that is most striking. The text asserts that this period, marked by significant economic and institutional constraints, allowed for the opening of a new phase of governance based on transparency, reform, and the pursuit of sovereignty. He specifically mentions efforts to clarify public finances, initiatives to modernize the state, as well as attempts at strategic repositioning in key sectors of the national economy.
In a particularly noteworthy passage, the motion emphasizes the renegotiations underway in the mining, oil, and gas sectors, presented as essential levers for regaining economic sovereignty. But it is above all the political tone of the text that makes an impression. The congress pays a strong tribute to Ousmane Sonko, presented as a central figure in the development of the project, the structuring of the party, and the struggles that led to its rise to power.
Around him, all government officials and party leaders who held official positions between 2024 and 2026 were also commended for their commitment and sense of sacrifice during a period deemed critical for the state. Beyond the individuals, the motion introduces a significant political interpretation: the exercise of power is temporary, but the project itself is destined to endure and take root. This serves as a reminder that PASTEF sees itself less as a governing force than as a movement for historical transformation. The text goes further, asserting that the achievements of this period now constitute a "collective political heritage," intended to structure the ongoing struggle for sovereignty, social justice, and the refounding of the state. Finally, the congress reaffirmed its determination to pursue the momentum already underway, albeit in different forms, emphasizing the continuity of the project beyond governmental responsibilities.
