Proposition de révision constitutionnelle : l’Apr exige son retrait
Macky Sall's party, the Alliance for the Republic (APR), is demanding the immediate withdrawal of the proposed constitutional revision. In a press release, it calls on all sectors of the nation to mobilize in defense of democratic gains. The political party believes that such a sweeping revision of the Constitution, which clearly undermines the presidential system, cannot be adopted by a parliamentary majority alone.
"The Constitution is the fundamental pact of the Nation; it belongs to the Senegalese people and not to any political majority whatsoever. Therefore, any major reform must be submitted to the people, the sole holder of national sovereignty, thus allowing each citizen to freely decide on the future of their institutions," she said.
Furthermore, the APR adds, Senegal's priorities lie in economic recovery, protecting purchasing power, creating jobs, establishing a truly independent judiciary, and strengthening the rule of law. But not "in a constitutional revision inspired by leadership disputes or circumstantial circumstances between the President of the Republic and the President of the National Assembly."
