Consommation du Brown Croaker : le ministère des Pêches rassure sur l’absence de risque sanitaire

The Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime and Port Infrastructure has sought to reassure the public about the health quality of Brown Croaker, following concerns raised in the media about a supposed high level of mercury in this imported fish.

In a press release published on September 3, the Directorate of Fisheries Processing Industries (DITP) stated that strict control measures are applied to all fishery and aquaculture products placed on the Senegalese market. These controls include documentary verification, identification of origin, physical and sensory inspection, as well as mandatory laboratory analyses.

Tests carried out by accredited laboratories include the search for heavy metals (mercury, lead, cadmium), pesticide residues and veterinary drugs. "Sale is only authorized after obtaining compliant results" and the issuance of a health certificate attesting to the safety of the products for human consumption.
