«Ses visages hideux...» : Moustapha Ndieck Sarré charge violemment l'ancien système au congrès du PASTEF
During a panel at the first congress of PASTEF-Les Patriotes, Moustapha Ndieck Sarré revisited the deep reasons that led to the creation of the party and the ambition for systemic transformation that continues to guide its action.
According to him, it is impossible to understand PASTEF's vision without going back to the context of its birth. At the end of 2013, when Senegal had been independent for more than half a century, many citizens were wondering about the causes of the country's development lag.
“We all know that in 2013, fifty-three years after our independence, many people were asking questions. Why is Senegal, which was one of the most advanced countries in Africa in 1960 and had a level of development comparable to that of several Asian countries, now among the least developed countries in the world?” he recalled.
According to the government spokesperson, it was precisely around this question that young Senegalese professionals decided to create a political organization whose fundamental objective was to bring about a systemic transformation in the country.
In his view, the system that has governed Senegal since independence has gradually shown its limitations. "This system has clearly shown its limitations, not to mention its ugly face," he declared to the delegates.
Moustapha Ndieck Sarré then outlined the main priorities that, in his view, should guide the party's future actions. He specifically mentioned the need for a profound reform of governance, the consolidation of economic sovereignty initiated in 2024, the promotion of youth employment, and the strengthening of social justice.
African integration also occupies a central place in this vision. For him, no African country can achieve sustainable development alone without strengthened continental cooperation.
“We firmly believe that we cannot develop our country without comprehensive African integration. Africa will develop as a whole or it will not develop at all,” he argued.
One of the major points of his speech concerned political training. Believing that PASTEF has entered a new phase in its history, he argued for a profound transformation of the party's training school.
While commending the work done since 2014, he called for strengthening this tool so that it can further train activists and leaders on issues of governance, sovereignty, social justice and development.
For Moustapha Ndieck Sarré, the success of the political project supported by PASTEF will depend as much on the quality of its ideas as on its ability to train women and men capable of implementing them in the service of Senegal.
