Tensions à l'APR Kaffrine : Un militant agressé en pleine Assemblée départementale
The departmental assembly of the Alliance for the Republic (APR), held last night for the installation of the Executive Secretariat, was the scene of violent clashes. The ceremony, intended to symbolize unity, degenerated following a critical speech, leading to the assault of a party activist.
The incident erupted after the intervention of Cheikh Ndiaye, a long-time APR activist and coordinator of the local Cojer (Coordination of Republican Youth). Speaking at the meeting, Cheikh Ndiaye challenged the local leader, Abdoulaye Saydou Sow, asking him to "give more consideration to the party's long-standing activists," arguing that their commitment deserved greater recognition.
These remarks, perceived as a direct criticism of Abdoulaye Saydou Sow's management and leadership, immediately ignited a firestorm.
According to witnesses, young people claiming to be close to Abdoulaye Saydou Sow reacted strongly to this intervention. Tensions quickly escalated, degenerating into an altercation. Cheikh Ndiaye was violently attacked and assaulted, causing panic in the courtyard of the APR headquarters.
The violent scene unfolded in front of the head of the delegation, Abdou Karim Fofana, and many other party officials and activists, thus disrupting the normal proceedings of the assembly.
This episode highlights the deep internal tensions and divisions that are undermining the APR in the Kaffrine department. It underscores the urgent need for the political party to prioritize dialogue in order to manage conflicts and preserve unity.
