Tera-meeting de Pastef en période d’épidémies : La coalition SOPI Sénégal alerte et appelle à la responsabilité
The Pastef party plans to hold a large gathering dubbed the "Tera-meeting" on November 8. The SOPI Senegal coalition is not pleased with the decision, given the worrying health situation. It calls for caution and political responsibility.
Meeting this weekend under the chairmanship of its coordinator, MP Tafsir Thioye, the coalition issued a statement in which it sounded the alarm about the economic, social and health situation in the country.
The SOPI coalition expressed deep concern about the spread of two epidemics: Rift Valley fever and Mpox (monkey pox), which are currently affecting several regions of Senegal. According to the latest data cited in the press release, more than 300 cases have already been identified and 28 deaths recorded.
Faced with this situation, the coalition believes that holding political rallies in the coming days, particularly in Dakar, could accelerate the spread of the virus and worsen the health crisis.
The SOPI coalition also expressed concern about the decline in growth forecasts for 2026, despite the start of hydrocarbon production. It cited high financing needs and increasingly heavy debt servicing, raising fears, it said, of "even more difficult futures."
On the political and judicial front, the SOPI coalition reiterates that freedoms of opinion and expression are guaranteed by the Constitution and must be fully protected. It calls on the President of the Republic and the judicial authorities to fulfill their responsibility in preserving these fundamental rights.
