Thiès : Abdou Mbow réclame la dissolution de l'Assemblée nationale
The MP strongly criticized the country's political and institutional situation during a press conference held this Sunday in Thiès. Faced with what he considers a "degradation" of the Republic's institutions, he advocated for the dissolution of the current National Assembly and the organization of early legislative elections held concurrently with local elections.
Speaking on behalf of the Thiès branch of the Alliance for the Republic (APR), Abdou Mbow stated that Senegal is going through "a particularly worrying phase in its institutional history." According to him, several actions and decisions taken in recent months have contributed to weakening institutions and fueling a climate of political uncertainty.
The parliamentarian specifically mentioned the reinstatement of Ousmane Sonko to the National Assembly, a decision he considers "controversial" and which, according to him, raises legal, institutional, and ethical questions. For the APR official, this situation constitutes a challenge to the rules governing the functioning of the parliamentary institution.
Abdou Mbow also denounced what he calls a political crisis at the top of the state, believing that the concerns of the current leaders are more oriented towards the conquest and control of power than towards managing the economic and social difficulties faced by the Senegalese.
According to him, the country is facing an unprecedented situation marked by tensions at the very heart of its institutions. He notably emphasized that the President of the Republic and the President of the National Assembly are perceived as potential contenders in the next presidential election, a situation he considers worrying for institutional stability.
In response to this situation, the Thiès branch of the APR party is calling for a mobilization of political and democratic forces to preserve republican institutions. The party also reaffirms its opposition to any constitutional reform that is not submitted to a referendum for popular approval.
For Abdou Mbow, the dissolution of the current National Assembly followed by the rapid organization of early legislative elections constitutes the best solution to deal with the "current political impasse", give citizens a voice and restore institutional balance.
The APR party in Thiès has finally announced the resumption of its awareness and mobilization activities in the municipalities of Thiès-East, Thiès-North, and Thiès-West. The party says it wants to meet with the people to explain its position and prepare for the upcoming elections.
"The Republic deserves to be defended, protected and passed on intact to future generations," concluded Abdou Mbow.
